After the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was asked what type of government they had given us. His reply is said to have been, “A republic, if you can keep it.” He is later reputed to have said, “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!”
And so it continues. We are about to begin the process of selecting candidates who represent our views. Concerned citizens will meet together to select delegates to our county nominating convention and our state nominating convention. In accepting positions as delegates, they assume the privilege and the responsibility to listen to the candidates running for office, and to assess their qualifications and their views on the issues before us. These delegates will represent us in selecting those candidates who will support our party platform and will best represent us.
The Democrat, Independent American, Republican and United Utah political parties will hold their caucus meetings on Tuesday, the 20th of March. The Constitution, Green and Libertarian parties will follow on different dates.
